January 2011

Nana and Aunt Kelli flew in over MLK weekend to host our baby shower. The theme was Splish Splash and they did an amazing job. I loved, loved, loved all the rubber duckies. Nana's punch and cupcakes were a hit, while Aunt Kelli made sure everyone was entertained. If you are ever in need of a recipe that will fly right off the table it's Nana's pinwheels. Right?

Between all the preparation for the shower, we were able to play a game of Michael Jackson Dance on the Wii. I quickly learned that my body doesn't move the same pregnant. I looked like I was having a seizure not dancing to Thriller. Nana was a champ with all her wild moves. We also took in the Lion King Saturday night. Although it is a fantastic show, Ryan and I nodded off a couple of times. It might have been all the excitement leading up to the shower. Nana flew home Sunday afternoon, so Aunt Kelli and I hit The Strip on Monday. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed spending some girl time. It was sad to see both of them leave.

Christmas Day Posole

Our gingerbread village (that took 4 hours to make)!

After much debate, Team Adams decided to stay close to home this year for Christmas.  I had two weeks off of work and Ryan had 3 day weekends, so we had some time for rest and relaxation. During the week, I baked my little fanny off. I love baking, and I figured I might as well take advantage of  my last Christmas without a little one to care for. Christmas Eve was spent at Christmas Eve service followed by Grandma Betty's Chicken and Noodles. Ryan ate so much that night, I was sure he was going to be sick.  Surprisingly he wasn't.  The following morning I attempted Christmas Morning Posole. Although it was edible, it wasn't quite like Mom's.  We watched the Christmas Day parade and took it easy all morning.  Our friends Michael, Nita, and their two boys were in town, so we were blessed to have them over for dinner on Christmas Day. It's always nice spending time with them.

Grandpa Gary and Spitfire joined us in Vegas for New Year's Eve. Although it was a quick one, we had a fantastic time. We went to Phantom of the Opera one night, which all of us enjoyed. For NYE we enjoyed Brazilian BBQ at Via Brazil. Afterwards, MOST of us stayed up to watch the ball drop. It was a quiet, but nice. Since it was NYE I did allow myself two glasses of Sparkling Cider. Ryan didn't want me to have to drink alone, so he helped me polish off the bottle.  After only three days with Ryan's parents, we had to say goodbye. We wish they were closer, but look forward to seeing them again this summer.
